I retired from Reuters in 2015 having worked in the International News Pictures business for more that 35-years. During these years I have been part of a massive change in the industry. When I started a single black and white analogue photo took 15 minutes to transmit to digital colour images. This process now takes seconds.

Prior to 2015 I spent nearly eight years being responsible for managing pictures coverage from the Middle East and Africa, covering big stories such as the Arab Spring and the Syrian civil war.

I joined UPI news pictures in 1978. It was taken over by Reuters in 1985 and I became part of the core of the new Reuters News Pictures operation.

Besides Beirut, assignments included London, Dubai, Singapore, Bonn, Brussels and Zurich working as a manager, editor and photographer.

I’ve covered various Olympics and World Cups, plus the fall of the Berlin Wall and Asian tsunami and an awful lot more . My great pleasure and honour has been to work with the many great photographers and picture editors who work for Reuters.

I now live in Bath in the West of England.
